Best Place To Work General Information

If you’re looking for a rewarding place to work as a registered nurse,  then Ellis Hospital is the place for you!

The Ellis Hospital Nursing Department consists of inpatient and outpatient units that provide nursing care to acutely ill patients and others who require skilled services.  The nursing care provided at Ellis allows patients to prevent or recover from illness,  maintain their health and,  when necessary,  maintain dignity during the dying process.

As providers, we believe that:

  • nursing is an art and a science
  • patients have rights and responsibilities,  including the right to take an active role in the planning implementation and evaluation of the care they receive
  • a patient’s care must be developed to meet his/her individual physical,  spiritual,  emotional, and psychosocial needs

The Role of Education

Education is a vital component of health care at Ellis Hospital.  Formal and informal education is accomplished through the ongoing assessment of needs,  and the development,  implementation and evaluation of programs.  The Ellis Hospital Nursing Department,  through its clinical nurse specialists,  nursing practice specialists and nurse educators,  offers educational programs and services to specific nursing units and patient populations.

Educational opportunities for staff include:

  • Comprehensive,  competency-based orientation programs
  • Ongoing staff development and continuing education
  • Satellite and closed-circuit television programs.
  • Critical Care Consortium membership
  • Training for BLS and ACLS (Ellis is an American Heart Association approved training center)

Standards of Practice

Standards of Practice provide measurable criteria that help guide quality nursing care at Ellis Hospital.  Patients can expect care that is:

  • Consistent with nationally-recognized Standards of Care,  New York State Scope of Practice and the Patient Bill of Rights
  • Directed and evaluated by a registered nurse
  • Integrated through the plan of care for all disciplines to ensure coordination of care
  • Considerate of all the needs of the patient and their significant others

Great Pay,  Benefits and More!

Ellis Hospital offers competitive salaries for registered nurses,  a variety of shift options and comprehensive benefit packages.  And Ellis Hospital does not utilize mandatory overtime as part of its routine staffing plan.   Mandatory overtime is only reserved for a critical situation,  which last occurred in March of 2002.

Ellis also offers a Clinical Ladder Program that recognizes nurses for expertise in clinical nursing practice.  This program allows nurses who have consistently demonstrated all of the performance standards in the registered nurse job description to apply for recognition of their practice.  There are three levels to the Clinical Ladder Program that an RN can apply for,  and each level offers a monetary award in addition to the recognition of clinical achievement.
