Nursing At Ellis General Information

Introduction

I have come to understand throughout my 25 year nursing career that nurses are the heart of healing in our present health care system.  For someone who is not a nurse,  it is difficult to understand the significant impact that nurses make on individual lives.

The fact that nursing spans the continuum of life is the best example I can give.  To be a nurse involved in bringing new life into this world,  as a human being takes his/her first breath,  and conversely,  to be involved in the dying process as a human being takes his/her last breath and exits this world,  is an awe-inspiring experience.  Nurses,  individually and collectively,  make up an incredibly powerful healing force!

When I began my nursing career,  I was attracted to the countless opportunities and choices for practice and the flexibility of schedule.  I never imagined the magnitude of the role that the nurse played in the health care continuum,  the impact that I,  as a nurse,  would have on so many individuals,  nor how my life would be shaped by my interaction with patients.

At Ellis,  we are proud of our nursing staff and work hard to ensure their clinical development and education,  to recognize the contributions that nurses make at the bedside,  and to involve our nurses in decisions related to patient/nursing care.

I hope that the nursing pages on this website can give you a glimpse of what Ellis has to offer nurses,  and demonstrate that nursing is a great profession and is so much more than a job!

“The Nursing Department at Ellis is implementing a Shared Governance program this fall that will allow nurses to be more fully engaged in how they practice nursing and to be more involved in making decisions that affect their work.

As a 27-year veteran of the nursing profession,  I can honestly say that Ellis Hospital is a wonderful place for a nurse to start,  restart or further his/her nursing career.”
