Orientation
The orientation program at the Ellis Hospital School of Nursing introduces first year students to faculty, administrative personnel, and policies and procedures related to student life and the school curriculum. New students network with second year students as a part of their socialization into the program.
Transfer students and students returning from a leave of absence will be oriented on an individual basis.
Student Advisement
The student advisement program is a total faculty effort which aims to make each student's educational experience as meaningful as possible. Faculty advisors meet with advisees at the beginning of each Fall semester. A student may contact his/her advisor for a conference concerning academic, clinical, or personal issues as needed. Faculty office hours are posted each semester.
The role of the faculty advisor is to be supportive by listening, restating, summarizing, and referring as necessary. To promote objectivity and avoid conflicts, the faculty advisor should refer the student enrolled in his/her course to another faculty member for advisement when appropriate.
The following resources are available to the faculty advisor for student referral:
Health concerns
Director of Employee / Student Health Office
Behavioral Health concerns
Ellis Crisis Intervention Center
Financial Aid concerns
Financial Aid Coordinator
Spiritual concerns
Ellis Pastoral Care Office
Academic concerns
Course Instructor / SCCC Student Support Services
