The Broughton Fellowship in Nursing

The Broughton Fellowship is awarded annually to a student entering their second year of study who consistently demonstrates outstanding merit,  industry,  and charm.  Financial need will not be an overriding consideration in determining the award.  Depending upon available funds,  an Associate Fellowship may be awarded to a student entering the second year.

A first year student may apply or may be nominated by a fellow student or faculty member for the Fellowship.  Tuition,  books and supplies and other educational costs during the second year are covered by the Fellowship.  Summer tuition may be awarded retroactively. Educational costs in the Fellowship agreement are identified as fees,  uniform,  white stockings,  uniform shoes,  small personal engraved gift (such as a watch) and incidentals.  If a student is a TAP recipient,  the Broughton Fellowship will cover the balance of expenses related to tuition,  books and supplies and other educational costs.

A first year student may apply or may be nominated by a fellow student or faculty member for the Associate Fellowship which may cover tuition costs during the second year.  If the Broughton fellow becomes ineligible prior to or during the second year,  the faculty may award the Fellowship to another second year student.  A student becomes ineligible if he/she no longer meets the criteria of the fellowship or is no longer enrolled in the program.  A student who leaves the school forfeits the award.

The application form for the Broughton Fellowship in nursing is available in the Registrar's Office.  Applications must be returned to chairperson of Admission and Evaluations Committee by July 15.  Award decisions are made by the full Faculty.  The Fellowship will be announced during the first week of the Fall semester.

Additional information regarding this scholarship,  including an application,  may be obtained by contacting the Ellis Hospital School of Nursing Financial Aid Office at 518-243-4471.
